This project is an illustrated book made to guide and inform anyone curious about the Graphic Design program at Dawson College—with a creative twist. It’s not just about the facts; it’s about the feeling of being a design student. Through playful storytelling, colourful layouts, and a miniature illustrated version of myself as the narrator, the book walks readers through the ins and outs of the program from a student’s perspective.
A little guide from little jian, bound together with love, hand cramps, and lots of late nights.
The goal was to create something both helpful and heartfelt—something that goes beyond course descriptions and instead highlights what it's really like to study design: the long nights, the aha moments, the stress, the coffee-fueled studio culture, and the satisfaction of watching your skills grow.
Each spread uses a mix of illustration, type, and layout to reflect different aspects of our experience—from tools and software to teacher personalities and class projects. The visual identity of the book plays with illustrations peeking through perfect forms and different typefaces to echo the idea that no one is perfectly made for this path, but with time and effort, you grow into it. You cut, paste, erase, and reshape—until the pieces start to fit.
